Though laparoscopic surgery is considered a gentle surgery the procedure is indeed not risk free, because of “Pneumoperitoneum” required, which has significant hemodynamic effect. Pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic surgeries can induce significant hemodynamic changes, particularly an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, due to elevated intra-abdominal pressure and CO₂ absorption. Attenuating this pressor response is crucial, especially in patients with cardiovascular risk. Labetalol, a combined α- and β-adrenergic blocker, may be effective in blunting this response. The pressor response to pnemoperitoneum is mainly due to sympathetic stimulation, which can be overcome by using various methods like IV drugs like β blockers, dexmeditomidine, clonidine, magnesium sulfate, epidural analgesia and decrease in flow rate of carbon dioxide insufflation. We studied the effect of Labetalol which is an alpha and beta blocker on the haemodynamic changes to CO2 insufflation and desufflation and its complications 2hrs in the postoperative period. This Study shows that the hemodynamic changes varied from baseline, but the change remained insignificant in case of end tidal carbon dioxide and arterial oxygen saturation, but the heart rate, systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressures were significantly increased.
