Background: Spastic Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a non-progressive neurodevelopmental disorder resulting from early brain injury and is characterized by hypertonia, muscle stiffness, exaggerated reflexes, and impaired voluntary movements, leading to significant functional limitations in children. Conventional treatments such as physiotherapy and antispastic medications often provide limited long-term benefit and may cause adverse effects. In Ayurveda, neuromuscular dysfunctions resembling spastic CP are described under Vata Vyadhi, where therapies aimed at pacifying aggravated Vata and strengthening neuromuscular function are emphasized. Objective: To evaluate the combined efficacy of Kukkutanda Sweda followed by Samvardhana Ghrita Matra Basti Basti in children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy. Materials and Methods: Twenty children diagnosed with spastic CP were selected from the outpatient department of a government Ayurvedic hospital. Initial treatment included Amapachana and Deepana with Mishreya Kashaya, followed by Koshtha Shodhana using Gandharvahastadi Taila. Subsequently, Sarvanga Abhyanga with Bala Taila and Kukkutanda Sweda were administered, followed by Samvardhana Ghrita Matra Basti for 16 consecutive days. Outcomes were assessed using the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for spasticity and the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale for muscle strength. Results:Statistically highly significant improvement (p < 0.0001) was observed in reduction of spasticity and enhancement of muscle strength.Discussion:The findings suggest that this combined Ayurvedic intervention may improve neuromuscular function and motor control in children with spastic CP, indicating a potentially safe and holistic therapeutic option. Further large-scale controlled studies are recommended.
