The present paper is an atempt to analyze the trend of urbanization in Bardhaman district, West Bengal, India, The district shows an increase in percentage share of urban population from 1901-2011. Level of urbanization in is higher than the state and national averages. Number of urban units also shows an increasing trend from 1901 onwards. Decennial growth rate and and rate of urbanization in the district fluctuates from one census to another. Theer exists intra district variation in the level of urbanization.
