Violence and aggressive behaviour are the serious problems in the health sector. Multinational data reports that approximately 75% of all psychiatric nurses have been assaulted at least once in their careers and nurses experience high rates of verbal assault from 82% to 97% (BAXTER et al 2003). One group pretest post test research design, a type of pre - experimental research was used for the study. The study was carried out in a selected hospital of Chennai. Total 30 samples were included for data collection. A questionnaire was prepared comprising of a set of 10 questions covering the main objectives. The study findings concluded that the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on management of violent behavior patients after the post test shows that that among the 30 nurses 83% of them had adequate knowledge 7% had moderate knowledge and 10% had mild knowledge
