Different networking solutions are used for the purpose of automation. DeviceNet being a simple networking solution is implemented. It reduces the cost and time to wire and install industrial automation devices, while providing interchangeability of like components from multiple vendors. DeviceNet is considered as the higher level protocol. This paper presents an automation of welding process carried out in industries using this higher level protocol to eliminate the hardwiring required. This paper gives implementation of DeviceNet for controlling the robotic arm which is intended to perform the welding.
